The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved a new policy aimed at attracting reputed foreign universities and leading private universities to the state.
The Andhra Pradesh Policy for Promotion of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions and Private Universities, 2026, was approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The policy aims to bring global-standard higher education opportunities closer to students in Andhra Pradesh. It is also expected to reduce the need for students to travel abroad for higher studies.
The government said the policy will encourage international academic partnerships, research, innovation and investment in the education sector.
The Cabinet also approved several measures covering education, healthcare, welfare and agriculture.
Under the expanded Thalliki Vandanam scheme, another 58,601 eligible students will be included. Financial assistance will also be released to 3,29,201 beneficiaries selected in the second phase.
A Centre of Excellence will be established at the AP Tribal Welfare Residential School at Marikavalasa in Visakhapatnam. It will provide IIT-JEE and NEET coaching to 600 tribal Intermediate students.
The Cabinet also approved a 10% increase in monthly diet charges for students staying in welfare hostels and residential schools.
The new foreign university policy is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s higher education sector and create more opportunities for students within the state.
