Andhra Pradesh has launched India’s first 3D-printed rural homes pilot in Burripalem village of Guntur district. The project marks a new step in using modern technology to build affordable homes faster. It is part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 scheme, under which 3 lakh houses are being taken up across the state. As part of the pilot project, 177 houses will use 3D concrete printing technology. Each house will cover around 325 square feet. The technology could help complete a house in nearly 10 days. It can also reduce construction waste and speed up the building process. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the launch event in Burripalem. They performed the traditional ceremony for beneficiary Bharathi and her family. The family also received new clothes during the programme. Speaking at the event, Naidu said the state government plans to increase housing assistance to around ₹9 lakh per house. He also said Andhra Pradesh could expand 3D printing technology if the pilot gives good results. Meanwhile, Chouhan said central support for rural housing in Andhra Pradesh has increased from around 76,000 houses to 3 lakh units. The project aims to support the government’s Housing for All goal while improving the quality of rural homes. In addition, 3D printing can help improve thermal comfort and reduce the use of construction materials. Officials will study the results before expanding the technology to more locations. The Andhra Pradesh 3D-printed rural homes project is an important experiment in combining modern construction methods with government housing schemes. If the pilot succeeds, the model could help build rural homes faster and with better use of resources in other parts of Andhra Pradesh and India.
