Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the state’s readiness for a severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal. Cyclone Arnab Andhra Pradesh landfall is expected on October 28, according to the Met Department. In addition, officials say the storm could intensify further before it reaches the coast.
Current estimates point to a crossing near the Konaseema, Yanam and Kakinada region. As a result, Kakinada, Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam districts could face strong winds and heavy rain. Konaseema, East Godavari and other parts of North Andhra could also feel the impact.
At landfall, winds should reach 115 to 125 km per hour. Gusts could touch 140 km per hour in some places. Moreover, strong winds should begin along the coast from the morning of October 27.
Heavy to very heavy rain will hit North Andhra and the central coastal districts on October 27 and 28. Some areas may see extremely heavy rain.
Officials told the Chief Minister that 10 NDRF teams and 11 SDRF teams are ready for relief work. Meanwhile, Naidu asked all departments to work together. He wants the administration to aim for zero casualties and to limit damage to property.
Naidu also gave clear instructions on preparedness. First, officials must arrange evacuation from areas at risk. Second, they must set up relief centres. Third, they must stock food, drinking water and medical supplies. Finally, they must be ready to restore power quickly after the storm passes.
Chief Secretary Sai Prasad, DGP Harish Gupta, district collectors and Real-Time Governance officials joined the meeting. Residents of coastal districts should follow official alerts and avoid going to sea.
