CM Chandrababu Naidu Opens India’s First Private Gold Mine

Kurnool, June 25: The Jonnagiri Gold Mine reached a major milestone on Thursday. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated India’s first private integrated greenfield gold mining project in Kurnool district.

The ₹405 crore Jonnagiri Gold Mine covers nearly 598 hectares across Jonnagiri, Erragudi and Pagidirayi villages. The project is expected to boost gold production, create jobs and support the local economy.

Jonnagiri Gold Mine Begins a New Chapter

The Jonnagiri Gold Mine is India’s first private integrated greenfield gold mining project. Therefore, the project marks an important step for the country’s mining sector.

Officials confirmed that the mine has 13.1 tonnes of certified gold resources. In addition, experts believe the site may contain up to 42.5 tonnes of gold.

The mine can produce up to one tonne of refined gold every year when it reaches full capacity. It is expected to operate for around 15 years.

CM Naidu Shares Future Plan

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu shared a bigger vision for the project.

He said Andhra Pradesh should increase gold production in the coming years. He also set a long-term target of producing 50 metric tonnes of gold every year.

According to the Chief Minister, higher domestic production will reduce India’s dependence on imported gold. As a result, the country can save foreign exchange and strengthen its economy.

Project to Create Jobs

The Jonnagiri Gold Mine will create direct and indirect jobs for local youth. Besides creating employment, the project will attract new investments to the region.

It will also support nearby businesses. Furthermore, better roads and other infrastructure may develop around the mining area.

A Step Towards Self-Reliance

India imports a large quantity of gold every year. Therefore, increasing domestic production has become an important goal.

The Jonnagiri Gold Mine supports the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. It will also help India reduce its dependence on imported gold over time.

Looking Ahead

The project marks a new beginning for Andhra Pradesh’s mining sector. At the same time, it highlights the state’s efforts to attract large investments. If exploration continues successfully, the mine could become one of India’s leading gold production centres in the future.
