Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar met Telugu film producers and fan representatives on October 7 to discuss the growing issue of AI-generated deepfakes, morphed videos and online harassment targeting film personalities, particularly women actors.
During the meeting, the Commissioner assured the Telugu film industry that police would take the issue seriously. He formed a special team to investigate complaints related to AI-morphed content and online harassment. Sajjanar also said he would personally monitor the investigations.
The meeting was organised by Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC) Chairman Dil Raju. Producers, industry representatives and fan members attended the discussion and shared their concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence on social media.
The issue has gained attention following several controversies involving fake and manipulated videos of celebrities. Such content can spread quickly across social media platforms and may cause serious harm to the reputation and privacy of those targeted.
Industry representatives welcomed the police initiative and thanked the Commissioner for responding to their concerns. Producer SivaCherry and executive Sarath Chandra Naidu were among those who appreciated the steps announced during the meeting.
The discussion also focused on the need for stronger safeguards against the misuse of AI technology. Participants called for faster action against those creating and circulating harmful manipulated content.
The meeting comes at a time when AI tools are becoming increasingly accessible. While the technology has several useful applications in the film industry, its misuse through fake videos and images has raised concerns about privacy, cybercrime and online harassment.
The Hyderabad Police initiative is expected to strengthen coordination between the Telugu film industry and law enforcement agencies when dealing with deepfake-related complaints.
