The upcoming epic film Ramayana: Rise of a Legend has received mixed reactions following early screenings in Los Angeles and New York. The film premiered at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles on October 27, ahead of its reported global release on November 5 in IMAX formats. While viewers praised its performances, visuals and music, some raised concerns about its narration and pacing.
Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama has received praise for its emotional depth. Yash, who plays Ravana, has also attracted attention for his powerful screen presence. Sai Pallavi plays Sita, while Sunny Deol appears in another important role.
The film’s large-scale visuals, particularly its depiction of Ayodhya and Lanka, have been among the highlights of the early reactions. The musical score by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer has also drawn appreciation for adding scale and emotion to the epic story.
However, the initial responses have not been entirely positive. Some viewers reportedly felt that the narration lacked impact in certain portions. Others pointed to slow moments in the second half and occasional visual glitches that affected the viewing experience.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film draws inspiration from the ancient Indian epic Ramayana. It combines mythology, action and large-scale cinematic visuals to bring the story of Rama, Sita and Ravana to audiences.
The reported early reactions suggest that the film’s visual ambition and performances have made an impression, although its storytelling and technical execution have also attracted criticism. The film’s wider release is expected to provide a clearer picture of audience response.
The second part is reportedly planned for release during Diwali 2027, continuing the epic story for audiences worldwide.
