Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has criticised people who use tragic incidents to target cinema and settle personal scores. In a strongly worded post on X, he said the first response to a heinous crime should be empathy for the victims and their families.
Vanga questioned the practice of blaming cinema whenever a serious crime takes place. He said people should focus on understanding the larger issues behind such incidents instead of looking for convenient scapegoats in the film industry.
The filmmaker also took aim at certain actors, directors and producers who speak about social responsibility during such situations. He accused some members of the industry of using horrific incidents as an opportunity to attack the work of others.
Vanga questioned whether their concern was genuinely for the victims and their families or whether they were using the tragedy to settle personal scores. His remarks suggested that criticism of cinema should not be driven by professional rivalry or personal disagreements.
He further stressed that serious crimes deserve meaningful public discussion and genuine concern. According to his post, blaming films or filmmakers without understanding the larger problem does not help the victims or their families.
Concluding his message, Vanga said, “A tragedy deserves empathy, not opportunism. Learn the difference.”
His post has brought attention to the debate over cinema, social responsibility and the tendency to link films with real-life crimes.
