Anaemia Mukt Bharat Expanded: Low Birth Weight Babies Now Included in Scheme

New Delhi: The Central Government has expanded the Anaemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) programme. Low birth weight babies from birth to six months will now receive benefits under the scheme.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda will launch the updated guidelines at the 16th meeting of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare.

The government has replaced the old 6x6x6 strategy with a new 7x7x7 strategy. Under the new plan, low birth weight newborns become the seventh beneficiary group.

The updated programme focuses on early detection and treatment of anaemia. It also promotes healthy eating, iron-rich foods, and digital monitoring to improve healthcare services.

The government has also introduced the T4 model, which stands for Test, Treat, Talk and Track. This replaces the earlier T3 model. The new system will help doctors monitor patients better and ensure timely treatment.

Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers with severe anaemia can also receive intravenous iron treatment if iron tablets do not work.

The Health Ministry will use digital platforms to track beneficiaries. Information about pregnant women and children will be linked through government health portals. In the future, all these services will be connected through a single Anaemia Mukt Bharat Portal.

The government launched the Anaemia Mukt Bharat programme in 2018 to reduce anaemia among women, children, adolescents, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers across India.
