Karnataka CM Change Speculation Grows Amid Congress Sting Video Row

Political tensions in Karnataka have increased after BJP state president B. Y. Vijayendra suggested that the state could see another change in the Chief Minister’s post amid the ongoing controversy over alleged sting-operation videos involving senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Speaking on October 14, Vijayendra said continued internal conflict within the ruling Congress could lead to the state getting a third Chief Minister since the last Assembly elections. He also questioned who was behind the alleged sting operations and called on Congress leaders to explain the matter to the public. The controversy began after Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar reportedly warned that sting operations could be used to target ministers and damage their reputations. The issue later became a political flashpoint, with Union Minister and JD(S) leader H. D. Kumaraswamy questioning why the government had not ordered an investigation. Kumaraswamy also made allegations about Shivakumar’s possible role in the matter, but these claims have not been established. Siddaramaiah, meanwhile, called for an investigation to identify those responsible and uncover the truth. The former Chief Minister has also approached a Bengaluru court seeking to stop the circulation of videos that he says could harm his reputation. On October 13, a sessions court issued an interim injunction restraining 42 media organisations and other platforms from publishing or sharing the disputed videos. The court action has added another dimension to the political controversy, which has drawn attention to the relationship between senior Congress leaders. The latest developments have also renewed questions about the party’s leadership and the reported power-sharing arrangement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. However, Vijayendra’s remarks are a political prediction and do not confirm that another Chief Minister will take office. The allegations surrounding the sting-operation videos also remain disputed, and the investigation demanded by political leaders would be needed to establish the facts. For now, the controversy has created fresh pressure on the Karnataka Congress leadership, while opposition parties continue to question the government’s handling of the issue. South Matters will continue to follow the latest political developments in Karnataka and report confirmed updates as they emerge.
