KTR Demands CBI Probe Into Alleged ₹10,000 Crore Singareni Scam

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into an alleged ₹10,000 crore scam at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). Speaking at the Singareni Karmika Garjana public meeting in Godavarikhani on October 14, KTR accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of corruption, financial mismanagement and irregularities in the state-owned coal company’s operations. He called for an independent investigation into the allegations and said the BRS would continue its fight to protect Singareni and its workers.

KTR alleged that irregularities had taken place in coal block tenders, open-cast mining contracts, machinery purchases and other company operations. He raised particular concerns about the Naini coal block tender process and the use of site-visit certificates in awarding contracts. He questioned why the tender process had faced repeated delays and demanded that the authorities investigate whether contractors had received unfair benefits. KTR also called for a probe by the CBI or a sitting judge to establish the facts and identify those responsible, if any wrongdoing is found.

The BRS leader further alleged that ₹6,317 crore had been diverted or improperly used over two financial years. He said the company needed a detailed audit of its accounts, spending, fund transfers and financial records. KTR also claimed that around 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal had gone missing and demanded that the government publish clear information about coal production, stock levels and transportation. These claims have not been independently established and require verification through an official investigation.

KTR also alleged that the Telangana government owed Singareni nearly ₹60,000 crore in pending dues. He said delayed payments could affect mining operations, equipment purchases and the company’s financial position. He questioned the government’s handling of the company’s finances and called for greater transparency in its decisions.

The BRS leader also raised concerns about coal production, claiming that output had fallen from around 70 million tonnes to 58 million tonnes. He blamed tender delays and administrative failures for the reported decline and demanded a clear explanation from the government and company management.

Along with the financial allegations, KTR focused on the concerns of Singareni workers. He accused the Congress government of failing to meet its commitments on profit-sharing benefits, bonuses and other employee demands. He urged the government to release pending payments and address workers’ concerns about job security and their future.

KTR also opposed any move to privatise Singareni Collieries Company Limited. He alleged that decisions by the state government and the Centre could weaken public sector companies and affect the livelihoods of coal workers. He warned that the BRS would intensify its protests if the government failed to address the allegations and workers’ demands.

The Singareni controversy has become a fresh point of conflict between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS in Telangana. However, the allegations made by KTR do not establish that a scam has taken place. An independent investigation and official records would be needed to confirm the claims, determine whether public funds were misused and establish responsibility. South Matters will continue to follow the developments and report verified updates on Singareni, the government’s response and the concerns of coal workers.
