The Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign is bringing citizens together from August 9 to 17, 2026, as India marks the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and prepares for the country’s 80th Independence Day on August 15. The campaign encourages people across the country to hoist the national flag at their homes and take part in activities celebrating India’s national spirit, unity and heritage.
The campaign is seeing participation from students, families, government organisations and Indian communities abroad. Students are taking part in rallies and awareness programmes, including an event at West Central Railway Senior Secondary School in New Katni Junction. Such programmes are aimed at encouraging young people to understand the importance of the national flag and the values connected with India’s freedom movement.
India Post is also supporting the campaign by making national flags available to citizens across the country. Indians living abroad are also joining the celebrations, giving the campaign an international reach and allowing members of the Indian community overseas to participate in the Independence Day celebrations.
A major highlight this year is the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. For the first time, the patriotic song is set to echo from the ramparts of the Red Fort as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Citizens are being encouraged to sing Vande Mataram, participate in the campaign and share their photographs and selfies through the official Har Ghar Tiranga website.
The campaign also places importance on respecting the national flag and following proper flag etiquette while displaying it. Citizens are being encouraged to handle and display the Tricolour with dignity and respect during the celebrations.
The Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign has become an important part of India’s Independence Day celebrations, encouraging people to take part beyond official events. With homes, schools, public institutions and Indian communities abroad joining the initiative, the campaign aims to create a shared sense of national pride while marking the historic 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.
As India approaches its 80th Independence Day, the campaign is expected to bring millions of citizens together through the Tricolour and Vande Mataram. The celebrations are intended to strengthen national unity and remind people of the values, sacrifices and spirit associated with India’s journey to independence.
