New Delhi: Ladakhi educationist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk has entered the 18th day of his indefinite hunger strike, intensifying pressure on the Centre over the NEET-UG 2026 examination controversy. The protest, taking place at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, continues to draw public attention as demands for accountability grow.
Wangchuk joined the youth-led sit-in on June 28, following the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination after allegations of a paper leak. The examination had reportedly been taken by more than 22 lakh students across the country before authorities decided to cancel it.

The 59-year-old education reform advocate has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, arguing that responsibility must be fixed for the alleged failures that led to the cancellation of one of India’s largest entrance examinations.
Supporters say the protest represents the concerns of millions of students and parents seeking a transparent and credible examination system.
Public Figures Extend Support
Several public personalities, including actor Swara Bhasker and actor Omi Vaidya, have visited or publicly supported Wangchuk during the protest. Opposition leaders have also appealed to him to end the fast, citing concerns over his health, while continuing to demand a thorough investigation into the examination controversy.
Reports also indicate that legal proceedings have raised questions regarding his medical condition, with calls for appropriate healthcare if required.
Government Yet to Respond
Despite the growing attention surrounding the protest, Wangchuk has maintained that he will continue his hunger strike until the government responds to the demands raised by students and protesters.
Meanwhile, members of the Cockroach Janta Party have announced plans to organise a larger mass hunger strike in solidarity with the ongoing protest.
