The PM Modi Venezuela Meeting marked another important step in strengthening relations between India and Venezuela. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez in New Delhi on June 4 and discussed expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, including energy, technology, agriculture, healthcare and critical minerals.

During the talks, both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations. Discussions focused on energy security, trade, investment, technology, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy.
Prime Minister Modi later stated that India and Venezuela would continue working together for the mutual benefit of their people. He also described Venezuela as a valued partner in Latin America and an important partner for the Global South.
Energy Cooperation Takes Centre Stage
Energy cooperation emerged as a major theme of the meeting. India has significantly increased imports of Venezuelan crude oil in recent months as it seeks to diversify energy supplies amid global disruptions. Venezuela has become one of India’s major crude suppliers following the easing of sanctions earlier this year.
Officials from both countries discussed cooperation in upstream and downstream energy projects. They also explored opportunities for expanding partnerships in oil, minerals and related industries.

Apart from energy, the leaders discussed collaboration in:

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that stronger India-Venezuela ties are important for the Global South. Both countries have traditionally supported greater cooperation among developing nations and continue to work together on international platforms.
The meeting also reflects India’s growing engagement with Latin America as New Delhi seeks to deepen economic and strategic partnerships across the region.
