Putin Says Pressure on India Over Russia Ties Could Harm International Relations

By South Matters World Desk | International Affairs

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that attempts by Western nations to pressure India over its cooperation with Russia could be harmful to both international and bilateral relations.

Speaking on India’s relationship with Russia, Putin stated that some countries are trying to exert pressure on New Delhi regarding its continued engagement with Moscow. However, he emphasized that such an approach would not be beneficial.

Putin Praises India’s Independent Foreign Policy

Putin noted that global leaders understand the importance of maintaining strong relations with India and acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a key international leader.

According to Putin, any effort to pressure India on its foreign policy decisions could negatively impact diplomatic ties and broader international cooperation.

India Remains a Reliable Partner

The Russian President described India as a reliable and trusted partner, highlighting the long-standing strategic relationship between the two countries.

He added that Russia has not seen any negative consequences arising from its cooperation with India and expressed confidence in the continued growth of bilateral relations.

Strong India-Russia Partnership Continues

India and Russia maintain cooperation across several sectors, including defense, energy, trade, space technology and strategic affairs.

Despite geopolitical tensions and sanctions-related challenges, both countries have continued to expand economic and diplomatic engagement in recent years.

Putin’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about global alliances and the role of emerging powers such as India in shaping the international order.
