SBI Land Row, Metro Loan Standoff: Revanth Reddy Meets Union Ministers in Delhi

Hyderabad, June 22, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has taken two major issues to New Delhi — the ongoing dispute with the State Bank of India (SBI) over a valuable land parcel in Hyderabad and the delay in the release of a massive loan for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

The Chief Minister arrived in the national capital on Sunday night after attending the wedding of NCP MP Supriya Sule’s daughter in Mumbai. During his visit, he is expected to meet Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Government sources said resolving the SBI land dispute and securing the Metro Rail loan are the top priorities of Revanth Reddy’s Delhi visit.

Telangana and SBI Face Off Over Raidurg Land

The Telangana government is locked in a legal and administrative battle with SBI over a 5.09-acre land parcel in Raidurg, one of Hyderabad’s prime locations. The state government planned to auction the land. However, SBI challenged the move and claimed ownership of the property.

The dispute has now become a major issue between the state government and the country’s largest public sector bank. Sources said the Telangana government has decided to take a strong stand and may raise the matter with both the Central government and the Reserve Bank of India. Officials expect Revanth Reddy to discuss the issue directly with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during his meetings in Delhi.

₹13,600-Crore Metro Loan Stuck

The second major issue concerns the delayed release of a ₹13,600-crore loan from the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC). The loan is crucial for Telangana’s plan to take over Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I from infrastructure giant L&T.

Although the state government has already signed an agreement, the loan amount has not yet been released. Officials said the delay has slowed down the takeover process and created uncertainty around the government’s future Metro expansion plans.

Metro Phase-II Plans Await Funding

Government officials believe the IRFC loan is essential not only for the Metro takeover but also for launching Phase-II expansion works. Without the funds, the state government may face delays in implementing its broader public transport plans. Sources said the government has expressed concern over the slow progress and wants an early resolution.

Sharpens Attack on Centre

In recent weeks, Revanth Reddy has publicly criticized the Centre over the Metro loan issue. He specifically targeted Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, accusing him of failing to help secure the release of the funds. However, the Chief Minister also adopted a diplomatic approach by writing to Kishan Reddy and seeking a meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The move signals that the state government is trying both political and administrative channels to resolve the issue.

High-Stakes Meetings Ahead

With both the SBI land dispute and the Metro Rail funding issue affecting key state projects, Revanth Reddy’s Delhi visit carries significant importance.

The outcome of his meetings with Union ministers could influence the future of Hyderabad’s infrastructure plans and the state’s efforts to unlock valuable government assets. For now, all eyes are on Delhi as Telangana pushes for solutions to two of its biggest pending challenges.
