CM Vijay Meets PM Modi, Raises Key Tamil Nadu Issues In Delhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and raised several important issues concerning the state, including the Mekedatu dam project, arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy and major defence infrastructure proposals.

The high-level meeting between the two leaders has triggered major political attention as Chief Minister Vijay presented multiple requests linked to Tamil Nadu’s interests, culture, economy and regional rights.

Vijay Thanks PM Modi Over AanaiMangalam Copper Plates

During the meeting, CM Vijay meets PM Modi discussions began with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister thanking the Prime Minister for the return of the historic AanaiMangalam copper plates from the Netherlands to India.

The move has been viewed as an important cultural and historical achievement connected to Tamil heritage preservation.

Concern Raised Over Tamil Thai Vazhthu

Chief Minister Vijay also requested clarity from the Union Home Ministry regarding the continuation of “Tamil Thai Vazhthu” at the beginning of all government functions in Tamil Nadu.

Sources said Vijay stressed the emotional and cultural importance of the state song for the people of Tamil Nadu.

Vijay Pushes For Major Defence Projects In Tamil Nadu

One of the major highlights of the CM Vijay meets PM Modi meeting was the request to establish the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) design and development centre in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay also urged the Centre to set up the Airborne Systems Centre in the state, stating that such projects would strengthen Tamil Nadu’s role in India’s defence and aerospace sectors while creating employment opportunities.

Mekedatu Dam Issue Raised With Prime Minister

Chief Minister Vijay expressed serious concern over Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu dam project during the meeting.

He reportedly told the Prime Minister that the project goes against the Cauvery Tribunal and Supreme Court verdicts and has created anxiety among farmers in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay requested the Union Government to ensure that the Jal Shakti Ministry and Central Water Commission do not approve the project without the consent of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

The CM Vijay meets PM Modi discussion on Mekedatu is expected to become a major political issue in the coming weeks.

Tamil Nadu Fishermen Issue Also Discussed

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also highlighted the increasing arrests and alleged harassment of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.

According to the details shared during the meeting, 12 arrest incidents have reportedly taken place in 2026 alone. Currently, 58 Tamil Nadu fishermen remain in Sri Lankan custody while 266 fishing boats have been seized.

Vijay urged the Union Government to press Sri Lanka for the immediate release of the fishermen and their boats.

Political Significance Of The Delhi Meeting

The CM Vijay meets PM Modi meeting is being viewed as one of the most important political interactions since Vijay assumed office as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

Political observers believe the discussions reflected Vijay’s attempt to position himself strongly on issues related to Tamil rights, federalism, farmers and fishermen welfare.

The meeting has already generated significant attention across political circles and social media platforms in Tamil Nadu.
