Karnataka : The Election Commission has started the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka. The door-to-door survey began on June 30 and will continue until July 29.
Ahead of the exercise, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar asked people to make sure their names are on the voter list. He said voting is an important democratic right and urged every eligible voter to take part in the verification process.
Mr. Shivakumar also warned that losing voting rights could affect access to government welfare schemes. Referring to similar steps in other States, he said verified voter records may become important for receiving certain government benefits.
Statewide Survey Begins
The Election Commission will carry out the survey across Karnataka. Officials will visit every household and distribute Enumeration Forms. The forms will be given only to voters whose names were on the electoral roll as of June 16, 2026. More than 5.5 crore voters will be covered during the exercise. The Election Commission has deployed:
- 59,050 Booth Level Officers (BLOs)
- 7,556 BLO Supervisors
- 224 Electoral Registration Officers
- 336 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers
- More than 1.1 lakh Booth Level Agents
Permanent Residential Certificate
The Karnataka government has introduced Permanent Residential Certificates to help citizens during the voter verification process. People can apply online through the Seva Sindhu portal. They can also apply offline at Atal Jana Snehi Kendras, Nadakacheris, Bengaluru One, Karnataka One, and Grama One centres.
The certificate can be used as proof of residence.
How the Process Will Work
Booth Level Officers will visit every house and distribute the forms. Homes where forms are delivered will receive a violet square sticker. Locked houses will receive a red round sticker. Officials will visit again if required. They may make up to three visits to collect the completed forms. The Election Commission has clarified that no documents will be collected during this stage. Voters only need to fill in the form, sign it, and hand it back to the Booth Level Officer.
