Tamil Nadu’s Tamil Nadu 11000 crore MoU London agreement was signed on September 14, 2026, when Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd., along with its European and UK group companies, inked a deal with Guidance Tamil Nadu worth roughly ₹11,000 crore. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was present for the signing during his official visit to London.
What the Deal Covers
The MoU spans design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and logistics operations, and is expected to generate around 7,000 jobs in Tamil Nadu. Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state’s nodal investment promotion agency led by MD and CEO Deepak Jacob, facilitated the agreement on the state’s behalf.
Part of a Larger UK Investment Push
Vijay departed for London on September 10 as part of an official government trip aimed at attracting industrial investment, accompanied by Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu member secretary Meghnatha Reddy. The visit builds on the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors’ Conclave 2026, where the state had already signed MoUs exceeding ₹7,800 crore within the government’s first 100 days.
Riding the India-UK Trade Pact
The trip follows the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which came into force on July 15, 2026. Tamil Nadu was among the first states to send an export consignment to the UK on the day the pact took effect. According to the state government, European multinationals have already proposed investment projects worth more than ₹8,491 crore, expected to create close to 5,690 jobs.
Vijay is scheduled to return to Chennai on September 17, following additional engagements in London aimed at positioning Tamil Nadu as a leading investment hub in Asia.
