Man Dies After Gutkha Spit Hits 11 kV Power Line From Balcony in Madhya Pradesh

An elderly man died in Ganj Basoda, in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, after he came into contact with an 11 kV high-tension line while spitting gutkha from a balcony on Friday, October 23, 2026. The Ganj Basoda 11 kV line death has left residents of the area shaken and angry.

According to Dainik Jagran’s Naidunia, the man was identified as Prabhu Lal Gupta, a resident of Gayatri Nagar in Ward 6. He was standing on the third-floor balcony when he was electrocuted. Reports put his age at either 60 or 65. Some reports say he was living in a rented, under-construction house at the time.

He died on the spot, and his body was left hanging from the balcony after the incident. Police reached the scene, registered a case of unnatural death, and began an investigation.

Residents say the wire ran dangerously close to the house and allege that earlier complaints to the electricity department were ignored. Locals have demanded that the line be moved away from homes and that safety measures be put in place.
