The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI), a traders’ organisation in Delhi, has written to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, seeking the postponement of the Congress rally scheduled for November 1. The organisation has warned that the event could disrupt business activity during the festive season.
According to the traders’ body, business worth around ₹10,000 crore could be at risk if the rally goes ahead as planned. The organisation has also expressed concerns about possible traffic restrictions, road closures and difficulties for customers visiting markets across the capital.
The CTI has claimed that traders suffered losses estimated at ₹3,000 crore in October and warned that further disruptions could affect sales during the important Diwali shopping period. It has urged Rahul Gandhi to consider postponing the rally to reduce the impact on local businesses.
The demand comes amid concerns among traders about managing customer movement, deliveries and commercial activities during large public gatherings. Delhi’s markets typically experience increased activity during the festive season, making accessibility an important concern for shopkeepers.
The traders’ organisation has called for a review of the rally schedule, arguing that protecting business activity during the festive period should also be considered. The Congress rally is scheduled for November 1, and further details about any response to the CTI’s request are awaited.
