Telangana food safety officials have taken action against sweet shops in Hyderabad following inspections that reportedly uncovered unhygienic kitchens, pest infestations and food labelling violations. On October 28, TG SAFE teams inspected 16 sweet shops across the city’s core urban areas as part of a food safety crackdown.
According to the report, five shops were shut down for operating without licences from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The licences of five other shops were suspended following the inspections.
Officials also seized 3,546.5 kilograms of food products valued at approximately ₹16.86 lakh. The inspections reportedly found dirty kitchen conditions, signs of pest activity and improperly labelled products at several locations.
G Pulla Reddy Sweets was among the businesses reportedly facing licence suspension following the inspections. The reported findings included concerns about unhygienic conditions and the presence of rat droppings. The specific findings and regulatory action against each outlet should be confirmed through official food safety records.
The inspections have renewed concerns about hygiene standards in food establishments, particularly during periods of high demand for sweets and other food products. Food safety authorities are responsible for checking whether businesses follow hygiene, storage, preparation and licensing requirements.
Officials have urged food businesses to maintain clean kitchens, follow food safety regulations and ensure that products are properly stored and labelled. Consumers are also encouraged to report suspected food safety violations to the relevant authorities.
The inspection drive highlights the importance of regular monitoring to protect public health and ensure that food sold to consumers meets the required safety standards.
