CM Vijay Seeks Supreme Court Bench In Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the establishment of a Supreme Court bench in Chennai.

In his letter, Vijay highlighted the difficulties faced by advocates and litigants from South India who have to travel to New Delhi for legal proceedings before the Supreme Court.

He said setting up a bench in Chennai would make access to justice easier for people across the southern states. It would also reduce the need for long-distance travel and help litigants and lawyers save time and expenses.

The request aims to improve access to the country’s highest court for people in South India. A Supreme Court bench in Chennai could make legal proceedings more accessible to people from Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states.

Vijay’s letter has brought renewed attention to the long-standing demand for better access to the Supreme Court outside New Delhi. The proposal now places the focus on the Centre’s response to the request.
