Andhra Pradesh to Launch Smart Street Lighting Project Across Urban Local Bodies

Amaravati, June 16, 2026:

The Andhra Pradesh government is set to modernize street lighting infrastructure across all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) through an ILMS-Based Smart Street Lighting Project in partnership with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

The initiative aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce electricity costs, and enhance urban services by introducing smart monitoring and management systems for street lighting across the state.

Smart Street Lighting Project to Improve Urban Infrastructure

Under the proposed Smart Street Lighting Project, existing streetlights will be upgraded with energy-efficient systems integrated with an Intelligent Lighting Management System (ILMS).

The technology will enable real-time monitoring, fault detection, remote operation, and better management of street lighting infrastructure.

Officials believe the project will improve reliability while reducing maintenance costs and energy consumption.

Andhra Pradesh Targets 30% Energy Savings

The state government has set a target of achieving at least 30 percent energy savings through the implementation of the project.

By replacing conventional lighting systems with modern energy-efficient alternatives, Urban Local Bodies are expected to significantly reduce electricity consumption and lower recurring power bills.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to sustainable urban development and environmental conservation.

Partnership with EESL

The project will be implemented in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector energy services company known for executing large-scale energy efficiency programs across India.

EESL will support the deployment of smart lighting technology and assist in achieving operational efficiency across urban areas.

Six-Month Completion Timeline

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly directed officials to complete the Smart Street Lighting Project within six months.

Authorities have been instructed to expedite planning, procurement, and implementation to ensure timely execution across all Urban Local Bodies.

Better Services for Citizens

Apart from reducing energy consumption, the project is expected to improve public safety, enhance street illumination, and provide better civic services for residents.

Officials say the initiative aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s broader vision of adopting smart technologies to strengthen urban governance and improve the quality of life for citizens.
