Yadadri Thermal Power Plant Privatization Move Triggers Employee Protests

Yadadri, Telangana, June 16, 2026:

The proposed privatization of the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant (YTPS) has sparked concern among employees, with worker unions warning of protests against the Telangana government’s decision to invite tenders for the plant’s operations and maintenance.

According to reports, the tender process commenced on June 12 and is scheduled to conclude on June 29. Officials are expected to open the bids on July 2.

Telangana Government Invites Tenders for YTPS Operations

The Telangana government has reportedly invited tenders worth approximately ₹255 crore for the operation and maintenance of the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant for a period of three years.

Officials say the move is aimed at improving operational efficiency and plant management. However, employees fear that outsourcing key operations could eventually lead to privatization of the project.

The Yadadri Thermal Power Plant is one of Telangana’s major power generation projects and plays an important role in meeting the state’s electricity requirements.

Employees Express Concern Over Privatization

Around 1,300 employees associated with the project have reportedly expressed concern over the tender process.

The YTPS Employees Joint Action Committee (JAC) has alleged that handing over operations to private entities could impact job security and alter the existing management structure of the power plant.

Employee representatives have also raised concerns that private contractors from outside Telangana could gain control over critical operations.

Employee Unions Warn of Agitations

The YTPS Employees JAC has warned that it is prepared to launch large-scale protests if the government proceeds with what they describe as privatization measures.

Union leaders have demanded clarity from the government regarding the future of permanent and contract employees working at the facility.

They have urged authorities to engage in discussions with employee representatives before implementing any major operational changes.

Government Yet to Clarify Future Course

While the tender process is underway, officials have not publicly indicated whether the move constitutes full privatization or an outsourcing arrangement for operations and maintenance services.

The issue is expected to generate significant discussion in Telangana’s political and industrial circles as the bidding process progresses.

With the tender deadline approaching, employees and stakeholders are closely monitoring developments regarding the future management of the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant.
