Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala residents have been alerted about a major power disruption scheduled for June 30, raising concerns about long hours without electricity across several parts of the state.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced that maintenance work will be carried out at the crucial Edamon 400 kV substation in Pathanamthitta district. The work is expected to take place from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, affecting the transmission of nearly 900 MW of electricity.
The Edamon substation is one of Kerala’s most important power transmission centres and serves as a key link between the state and the national power grid. Officials say the maintenance is necessary to improve grid stability and prevent unexpected power failures in the future.
As a result, several areas across Kerala may experience power interruptions during the 12-hour period. The exact list of affected locations is expected to be announced by KSEB in the coming days.
Residents have been advised to charge mobile phones, power banks, and other essential devices in advance. Businesses, hospitals, and offices are also expected to make backup arrangements to avoid disruptions.
The planned shutdown comes at a time when Kerala is witnessing high electricity demand. Authorities say the temporary inconvenience is necessary to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure and ensure a more reliable supply in the future.
KSEB is expected to issue further updates and advisories before the scheduled maintenance begins on June 30.
