PM Modi Reviews Governance Reforms, Urges Secretaries to Focus on Ease of Living and Aatmanirbhar Bharat

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an extensive interaction with Secretaries to the Government of India at Seva Teerth, reviewing progress on key governance reforms and outlining the Centre’s priorities for improving public service delivery, strengthening economic reforms, and accelerating India’s journey towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The meeting focused on two major themes—“Deregulation and other reforms for Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living” and “Promoting Aatmanirbharta.” Senior bureaucrats from various ministries and departments briefed the Prime Minister on ongoing initiatives, policy reforms, implementation challenges, and future strategies aimed at enhancing governance across sectors.

Government Reviews Reform Agenda

During the interaction, Secretaries presented updates on reforms being undertaken within their respective ministries. They highlighted measures designed to simplify regulations, reduce compliance burdens, improve citizen services, and strengthen India’s self-reliance across strategic sectors.

Officials also discussed sector-specific challenges and explained how government departments are working to translate the Prime Minister’s vision into measurable outcomes for citizens and businesses.

The review forms part of the Centre’s continuous effort to improve administrative efficiency while ensuring that government schemes achieve their intended impact on the ground.

PM Modi Calls for Whole-of-Government Approach

Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of adopting a whole-of-government approach, encouraging ministries to work in close coordination instead of functioning in isolated departmental silos.

He emphasized that governance challenges increasingly require integrated planning, seamless coordination, and collaborative decision-making among different departments.

According to the Prime Minister, stronger institutional cooperation will improve policy implementation and help deliver faster, more effective services to citizens.

Greater Use of PM GatiShakti Platform

A major point of discussion during the meeting was the expanded use of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.

Prime Minister Modi encouraged wider utilization of the digital platform as a tool for:

  • Better inter-departmental coordination
  • Integrated infrastructure planning
  • Faster project implementation
  • Improved data-driven decision making
  • Efficient resource allocation

The PM GatiShakti platform has become a key component of the government’s strategy to eliminate duplication of work and improve coordination among ministries involved in infrastructure development.

Focus on Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living

The Prime Minister reiterated that governance reforms must benefit both businesses and ordinary citizens.

While Ease of Doing Business remains important for attracting investments, generating employment, and improving India’s global competitiveness, he equally emphasized Ease of Living, ensuring that citizens experience simpler, faster, and more transparent government services.

Officials discussed reforms aimed at reducing regulatory hurdles, improving digital governance, simplifying administrative procedures, and enhancing public service delivery.

Promoting Aatmanirbhar Bharat

The second major theme of the meeting centered on strengthening Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Secretaries outlined initiatives across manufacturing, technology, innovation, infrastructure, digital transformation, and strategic industries that contribute to India’s long-term self-reliance.

The discussions also covered future policy measures designed to boost domestic capabilities while making India more resilient against global economic uncertainties.

Citizen-Centric Governance Remains the Priority

Prime Minister Modi urged senior officials to keep citizens at the centre of policymaking.

He emphasized that the success of any government programme should ultimately be measured by its tangible impact on people’s lives, rather than only administrative achievements.

He encouraged departments to continuously evaluate whether schemes are reaching beneficiaries efficiently and producing meaningful improvements in governance and quality of life.

Strengthening Administrative Coordination

The interaction reflects the government’s continued emphasis on administrative reforms through:

  • Better coordination among ministries
  • Technology-driven governance
  • Faster implementation of projects
  • Reduced regulatory complexity
  • Improved public service delivery
  • Greater accountability in implementation

The Centre believes these reforms will help improve efficiency while supporting India’s long-term economic growth and development goals.

Looking Ahead

As India continues to pursue ambitious economic and infrastructure goals, coordination between ministries is expected to play an increasingly important role.

The discussions at Seva Teerth reinforce the government’s focus on integrated governance, institutional collaboration, and citizen-first policymaking as India advances towards becoming a developed nation under the vision of Viksit Bharat.
