YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Member of Parliament from Rajampet, P.V. Midhun Reddy, has received major relief after being granted bail in the ongoing Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court in Vijayawada approved his bail petition today, bringing an end to his 71-day judicial custody.

According to the court’s directions, Midhun Reddy who is listed as Accused No. 4 in the case must appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) twice a week for questioning. He has also been instructed to furnish two sureties along with a bail bond of ₹2 lakh. Following completion of formalities, he is expected to walk out of Rajahmundry Central Jail tomorrow.

Midhun Reddy was arrested on July 20 in connection with alleged irregularities in the liquor trade. Since then, he has been lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail while the investigation progressed. His arrest had sparked sharp criticism from YSRCP leaders, who termed it a case driven by “political vendetta.”

Bail Conditions Set by ACB Court

As per the court order, Midhun Reddy—listed as Accused No. 4 in the case—must:

  • Appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) twice a week for questioning

  • Provide two sureties

  • Furnish a bail bond of ₹2 lakh

After completing the formalities, he is expected to be released from Rajahmundry Central Jail, where he has been lodged for the past 71 days following his arrest on July 20.

YSRCP’s Reaction: “False and Fabricated Case”

The YSR Congress Party strongly criticized the arrest, calling it politically motivated and driven by “personal grudge” against the Rajampet MP. Party leaders alleged that rival political forces were attempting to tarnish Midhun Reddy’s reputation and weaken YSRCP’s growing influence in Andhra Pradesh.

Supporters in Rajampet celebrated the court’s decision, hailing it as a “moral victory” for their leader.

Ongoing Investigation

While the bail order provides temporary relief, legal experts note that the liquor scam investigation is still active. Midhun Reddy is required to fully cooperate with the SIT as per court directives. The final outcome will depend on whether the prosecution can present substantial evidence to prove the charges.

Political Significance in Andhra Pradesh

The bail order has intensified political discussions in Andhra Pradesh, with YSRCP portraying the case as an example of political harassment, while opposition parties are expected to use the proceedings to target the ruling party. As the case unfolds, it is likely to remain a flashpoint in the state’s political discourse.

The case has drawn both political and public attention, but the final verdict will depend on evidence presented in court," a political commentator noted.
