Chennai/Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that his government will introduce a breakfast program in government schools across Telangana from the coming academic year, inspired by Tamil Nadu’s successful model. He also reiterated that the state is moving ahead with enhanced 69% reservations in local body elections, earmarking 42% for OBCs and 27% for SC/STs.
The CM made these announcements while addressing students as a special guest at the ‘Vidya Punarujjeevana Veduka’ (Education Revival Festival) organized by the Tamil Nadu government at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The event was attended by Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin, Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, and several ministers.
Tamil Nadu as an Inspiration in Education
Revanth Reddy praised Tamil Nadu’s educational reforms, crediting leaders like Annadurai, Kamaraj, and Karunanidhi for their vision. He recalled how Kamaraj’s mid-day meal initiative eventually influenced the rest of the country.
“The breakfast program being implemented in Tamil Nadu touched my heart. Telangana will adopt a similar model to ensure nutritious meals for children in government schools,” he said.
The CM added that his government views education spending not as charity, but as a rightful investment in equality, social justice, and development.
Strong Bonds Between Telugu & Tamil People
Highlighting the historical ties between Telugu and Tamil communities, Revanth Reddy said both states have played crucial roles in shaping modern India. While Tamil Nadu excelled in manufacturing post-1991 economic reforms, Telangana became a hub for IT and pharma sectors. Both states, he observed, share a strong commitment to social justice, public health, and welfare schemes.
Telangana’s Push for Educational Reforms
The CM detailed Telangana’s recent educational initiatives:
Establishment of Young India Skills University and Advanced Technology Centers.
Launch of Young India Sports University to nurture Olympic-level talent.
Setting up of 100 Young India Integrated Residential Schools across assembly constituencies to bring SC, ST, OBC, and minority students under one roof.
Plans to provide free uniforms, school transport, and KG-to-PG pathways in government schools.
He also noted that Telangana, like Tamil Nadu, is home to premier institutions such as IIT, IIIT, NALSAR, and ISB, and efforts are underway to attract world-class universities to Hyderabad.
Recognition and Felicitations
On stage, CM Revanth Reddy also felicitated beneficiaries of Tamil Nadu’s educational schemes and honored eminent educationists who contributed to student welfare. He congratulated CM Stalin and Deputy CM Udhayanidhi for carrying forward Karunanidhi’s vision, adding that Tamil Nadu and Telangana will together emerge as knowledge hubs for the nation.
“Tamil Nadu’s policies are inspiring lakhs of students. This is a roadmap not just for South India, but for the whole country,” he remarked.
