Hyderabad, October 9: The Telangana Government is actively exploring partnerships to expand solar power generation and usage across the State, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said on Thursday.
Speaking after a meeting with a delegation from Germany at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat, the Deputy CM said the government is “keenly interested in promoting solar power generation and utilization” as part of its efforts to strengthen the power sector.

The German delegation, represented by Dr. Sebastian and Dr. Raghu Chaliganti, presented several proposals aimed at supporting Telangana’s renewable energy ambitions. They noted that Germany had come forward after recognizing the State’s growing interest in the solar energy domain.
Bhatti Vikramarka briefed the team on Telangana’s existing energy initiatives, including free power supply to 29 lakh agricultural pump sets and up to 200 units of free electricity under the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
“We are exploring ways to supply solar power to agricultural pump sets and Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries. The idea is to develop a model where farmers and households can also earn a steady monthly income as part of the solar initiative,” the Deputy CM said.

He directed Energy Department Principal Secretary Naveen Mittal to examine how German solar technologies could be integrated into Telangana’s power sector and to assess the economic and technical benefits of the proposals.
The Deputy CM asked the department to prepare a comprehensive report after detailed study of the German team’s submissions.
The meeting was attended by Transco CMD D. Krishna Bhaskar, SPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqui, REDCO CMD Anila, and senior officials from the Energy Department, alongside the German representatives.
The State government is expected to release follow-up details once the technical evaluation of the proposals is completed.
