Chennai : The Tamil Nadu political battlefield just got hotter. Four days after the tragic Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Thalapathy Vijay has broken his silence and directly aimed his words at Chief Minister MK Stalin and the ruling DMK.

In an emotional video message released Tuesday evening, Vijay accused the government of vendetta politics, hinting at a conspiracy behind the FIRs against his party leaders.

“Chief Minister sir… if you have revenge plans, do anything to me. Don’t touch my leaders. I will be at home or in office,”

Vijay’s Stand:

  • “We did nothing wrong except speaking at the designated spot.”

  • “Police permission was taken for safe rally grounds.”

  • “The people who died came out of love for me. My heart is full of pain.”

  • “My political journey will continue with renewed vigour.”

The Political Fallout

Cases have already been filed:

  • Mathiyazhagan (TVK functionary) – arrested on charges including attempt to murder.

  • Bussy Anand & Nirmal Sekar (senior leaders) – named in FIRs.

  • Even Vijay himself faces charges of “deliberate display of power,” accused of delaying his arrival to create frenzy.

Yet, Vijay insists TVK followed every rule. His words, “What should not have happened, happened… I have never faced such a painful situation,” are being seen as both emotional appeal and political dare.

Why This Matters

The Karur stampede isn’t just a tragedy — it’s now a flashpoint in Tamil Nadu’s 2026 election war.

  • TVK is emerging as a dark horse, powered by Vijay’s massive fanbase.

  • DMK is scrambling to contain the fallout, painting Vijay as “irresponsible.”

  • BJP, AIADMK, and others are watching closely as the two heavyweights clash.

As Vijay himself declared at a recent rally: My only ideological enemy is the BJP. My only political enemy is the DMK.”
The battle lines are drawn. With 41 lives lost, emotions running high, and accusations flying both ways, the Karur tragedy has morphed into the biggest political storm of Tamil Nadu’s decade.
