Tamil Nadu Plans AC for Every New Government Bus
AC Buses Tamil Nadu is the latest public transport initiative announced by the state government. Tamil Nadu will equip every new government bus with air conditioning to improve passenger comfort and modernize its bus fleet.
Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban announced the decision on June 28. Chief Minister Vijay gave the direction after travelling in a newly launched government bus in Chennai.
300 New Buses Already Launched
On June 25, the Chief Minister flagged off 300 new government buses. The project cost ₹127.21 crore.
The government launched these buses to replace old vehicles. The new fleet will improve transport services in both cities and villages.
Better Travel for Daily Passengers
More than two crore people use Tamil Nadu’s public buses every day.
The government wants to improve comfort, safety, and travel quality. Air-conditioned buses can also help passengers during the state’s hot summer months.
Officials say the new buses are part of a long-term plan to modernize public transport.
Questions Over Cost
Some people have welcomed the decision. Others have raised concerns about the cost of AC buses.
Many passengers also want to know if ticket prices will increase in the future.
Officials say AC buses cost only a little more to operate than regular buses. They believe the better travel experience will justify the extra spending.
A Step Towards Modern Public Transport
Tamil Nadu continues to invest in better public transport. The government hopes the new AC buses will make bus travel more comfortable for millions of people every day.
The project also aims to replace ageing buses and build a modern transport system for the future.
