Karnataka MLC Polls: BJP Chief Summons Vijayendra Over Cross-Voting

Bengaluru: The political situation in Karnataka has intensified after alleged cross-voting in the recent Legislative Council (MLC) elections. BJP national president Nitin Nabin has summoned Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra Yediyurappa and other senior leaders for a review meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for June 23 in Delhi, as the party leadership takes serious note of internal voting violations.

BJP Acts After Cross-Voting Allegations

According to party sources, the leadership has taken a strict view of the alleged cross-voting. Moreover, preliminary reports suggest that several BJP and JD(S) MLAs voted against party lines. As a result, the BJP central leadership has decided to investigate the matter in detail.

Election Results Favor Congress

In the MLC elections, the Congress won five out of seven seats. The BJP secured two seats, while the JD(S) failed to win any seat.However, the results also revealed unusual voting patterns. Congress received 151 votes, which is 11 more than its expected strength of 140.

Alleged Cross-Voting by MLAs

Sources indicate that three BJP MLAs and eight JD(S) MLAs allegedly cross-voted in favor of Congress candidates. In addition, one BJP vote was declared invalid.

Meanwhile, BJP leader R Ashoka admitted that cross-voting had taken place and stated that disciplinary action would follow after identification of the members involved.

BJP Seeks Explanation from Leadership

BJP Karnataka president Vijayendra stated that the party is currently gathering details. He added that the leadership will take appropriate action once the facts are confirmed. Moreover, the internal review is expected to focus on party discipline and organizational accountability.

Political Impact in Karnataka

The MLC results mark the first major electoral test after the formation of the Congress government led by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.Therefore, the alleged cross-voting has raised questions about internal unity within opposition parties in the state.
