Bengaluru, June 22, 2026: Karnataka is moving ahead with an ambitious plan to build India’s first AI-powered integrated mega city near Bidadi in Ramanagara district. The project, backed by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, aims to ease pressure on Bengaluru while creating a new hub for technology, innovation, and sustainable urban development.
The proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township will cover between 7,500 and 9,600 acres across nine villages, located around 30 to 40 kilometres southwest of Bengaluru.
AI-Powered Smart City Vision
The township is being designed as a modern “work-live-play” city. It will combine residential areas, commercial districts, industrial zones, and innovation hubs within a self-sustaining urban ecosystem.
Officials have earmarked more than 2,000 acres for artificial intelligence and innovation centres. Another 1,800 acres will be used for residential development. The remaining area will accommodate commercial spaces, industries, public facilities, and transport infrastructure.
Investment and Job Creation
The Karnataka government expects the project to attract investments worth more than ₹20,000 crore. The township could also generate lakhs of direct and indirect jobs in sectors such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, technology services, logistics, and research.
Officials believe the project will strengthen Karnataka’s position as a leading technology destination in India.
Focus on Sustainability
Environmental sustainability is a key part of the township plan. Around 950 acres have been reserved for green zones and environmental conservation.
The project also includes plans to restore water bodies, including Byramangala Lake, and introduce advanced water management systems to ensure long-term water security.
A proposed 40-kilometre transport network connecting major roads and railway corridors is expected to improve connectivity across the region.
Reducing Pressure on Bengaluru
Bengaluru continues to face challenges such as traffic congestion, housing shortages, water stress, and growing pressure on civic infrastructure. With the city’s population nearing 15 million, the government sees Bidadi as a major satellite growth centre.
The new township is expected to create employment opportunities outside Bengaluru’s city limits and support economic growth along the Bengaluru-Mysuru corridor.
Land Acquisition and Compensation
To support the project, the Karnataka government has announced an enhanced compensation package for landowners. Compensation may reach up to ₹2.55 crore per acre, one of the highest rates offered in the state.
Landowners may also receive developed residential or commercial plots, along with financial assistance during the transition period.
Concerns and Government Response
Some farmers and environmental groups have raised concerns about land acquisition and environmental impact. However, the government has assured stakeholders that rehabilitation measures, compensatory afforestation, and public consultations will be part of the implementation process.
A Landmark Development Project
D.K. Shivakumar has said the township is part of a long-term development vision that dates back to 2006. He also acknowledged the contribution of former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in shaping the original concept.
As the project moves forward, supporters believe the Bidadi Integrated Township could become a model for AI-driven urban development and position Karnataka as a leader in innovation, sustainable growth, and advanced manufacturing.
