Hyderabad, June 25: Hyderabad’s first IT tower is making way for history. Workers have started demolishing the former Intergraph Consulting building in Begumpet. The building helped launch the city’s IT journey nearly four decades ago.
Intergraph Consulting, an American company, started operations here in 1987. At that time, Hyderabad had only a few IT companies. Today, the city is one of India’s biggest technology hubs.
A Building That Changed Hyderabad
The Hyderabad First IT Tower played a big role in the city’s early IT growth. Many professionals still remember Begumpet as Hyderabad’s first IT centre.
Before HITEC City came up, most technology companies worked from Begumpet and Ameerpet. Intergraph Consulting was one of the first multinational companies to open an office in Hyderabad.
Soon, other companies such as Brigade, Tata Servisol, Wipro Airtel and Satyam also started operations in the area. As a result, Begumpet became the city’s first IT hub.
Why the Building Is Being Demolished
Officials said they decided to demolish the building because of problems with the underground water system.
They also expect a new commercial complex to come up at the site. However, authorities have not announced the final development plan.
Begumpet Helped Bring Global Companies
In the early years, Begumpet Airport made business travel much easier.
Because the airport was close to the city centre, company leaders and foreign visitors could reach their offices quickly. Therefore, many international companies chose Begumpet for their first Hyderabad offices.
How Hyderabad’s IT Hub Shifted
During the late 1990s, the Telangana government focused on developing HITEC City in Madhapur. At the same time, more global companies entered Hyderabad. They needed bigger office spaces and better infrastructure. As a result, many companies moved from Begumpet to Madhapur, Gachibowli and Nanakramguda. Later, the international airport shifted to Shamshabad. This change further strengthened the new IT corridor.
A Historic Chapter Ends
Today, Hyderabad is known around the world as a leading technology city. However, the story began in Begumpet. The Intergraph Consulting building helped shape that journey. Although the structure will disappear, its place in Hyderabad’s IT history will remain. Many former employees and residents still see the building as a symbol of the city’s early success in the technology sector.
