Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy left Hyderabad for Mumbai on Sunday evening, October 25, 2026. The Tummidihatti barrage talks with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are set for Monday at 11 am. The two leaders will meet at the Sahyadri State Guest House.
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior irrigation officials travelled with the Chief Minister. As planned, the delegation will stay overnight in Mumbai and call on Fadnavis the next morning.
The talks will focus on the proposed barrage across the Pranahita river, a tributary of the Godavari. Telangana also wants to settle the inter-state clearances that the project needs.
The main dispute is the height of the barrage. Telangana is seeking a Full Reservoir Level of 152 metres. However, Maharashtra had earlier agreed only to 148 metres. Revanth Reddy argues that a lower barrage would not let Telangana divert enough water. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has raised concerns about villages that could go under water.
Telangana says the project would irrigate about two lakh acres, mainly in the Adilabad district. This area is largely forest and tribal land. Moreover, the state calls it one of the most backward regions.
Before leaving, Revanth Reddy held a review on October 23. He asked officials to prepare technical reports on water availability, barrage height and the land that submergence could affect in Maharashtra. As a result, Telangana will go into the meeting with data to support its case.
Whether Fadnavis agrees to the 152-metre level will decide how quickly the project can move ahead.
