Kuwait International Airport was hit by an Iranian drone and missile attack early Wednesday, causing damage to airport infrastructure, disrupting flight operations and escalating tensions in the Gulf region. Kuwaiti authorities confirmed that at least one person was killed and dozens were injured in the strike.
Airport Infrastructure Damaged
According to Kuwaiti officials, the attack targeted facilities at Kuwait International Airport, including Terminal 1. The strike caused significant structural damage and forced authorities to activate emergency response measures. Flights were temporarily suspended while security and safety assessments were carried out.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene to assist victims and assess the extent of the damage. Authorities also diverted several incoming flights to alternative airports during the disruption.
Casualties and Injuries Reported
Kuwaiti authorities reported that one person died in the attack, while more than 60 others sustained injuries. Medical teams treated the wounded at nearby hospitals as emergency services remained on high alert.
The attack marked one of the most serious incidents affecting civilian infrastructure in Kuwait during the latest regional escalation.
Flights Gradually Resume
Following safety inspections and operational reviews, airport authorities began restoring services. Kuwait Airways resumed some operations after officials completed emergency checks and cleared affected areas.
However, several airlines continued to monitor the security situation closely, with some carriers adjusting schedules and issuing travel advisories.
Regional Tensions Rise
The strike comes amid heightened tensions between Iran, the United States and several Gulf nations. Reports indicate that the attack followed renewed military exchanges in the region, raising concerns about the security of civilian infrastructure and international air travel.
Kuwait strongly condemned the attack and described it as a violation of international law. Officials stated that the country reserves the right to take appropriate measures to protect its sovereignty and citizens.
Growing Concern Over Aviation Security
The incident has renewed concerns about the vulnerability of major transportation hubs during periods of regional conflict. Aviation experts warn that attacks on civilian airports can have far-reaching consequences for travel, trade and economic stability.
As investigations continue, regional governments and international observers are closely monitoring developments in the Gulf amid fears of further escalation.
